MY METHOD IS CONTROLLED CHAOS
I want to spend my life experiencing creativity and ideation whenever and wherever it is reachable to me. Sometimes I do an impromptu performance in a public space, other times I am spending hours and days in the studio. For me, art is the process, the experience and the outcome.
Immigration has connected me to a process of new identity, new ways to see womanhood, and much appreciation for precious little moments of life. That is why I one day I am snapping photographs at 6000ft, another one I am sketching my aunt making dinner. I do not allow myself not to create, no matter where I am traveling to.

Step into the mythical world of La Ciguapa, an elusive figure from the folklore of La Hispaniola (present-day Dominican Republic and Haiti. La Ciguapa is believed to dwell in the woods and rivers of La Hispaniola. Known for her long, flowing hair and backward feet that make her impossible to track, folklore holds that she can only be captured during a full moon, but if held in captivity, she perishes.
Giving a twist to the tradition of PastelPacked with Caribbean colors and a storm of abstraction, these art pieces show off the luminance and textural power of pastel, the most pigmented medium of all. I bring bold lines and striking mark-making, to a medium traditionally dominated by softness.

Abstracts to dream and dance toMaking abstract art is like social dancing: I experience the thrill of tuning up to someone new, someone I have not met before, to understanding how they move and how they communicate without any words. Paintings are the same, they talk to me and tell me what they want. My role is to follow them. The long, energetic and rhythmic strokes in the larger pieces show the performative aspect to this process, where I put in my whole body movement, my breath and abandonment, just like a dance.

Experiencing travel through dance performance

Starting in 2021,I started experimenting with new ways of uniting different artforms.
I called it the Paint Dancer, a joyful yet exhausting method of creating abstract painting: with my feet.
With bold foot strokes and movement, I present a story of the artist being subject, performer and object at once.
I travel around cities, states and countries, setting up public performances where the rhythm is inspired by my experience there.
"Lusmerlin: The Paint Dancer" is also a self-portrait of an immigrant body, who chooses to be seen on her own terms.
